Operations Manager - Utilities

Mid Tier Civil Operations Manager sought to join Civil Infrastructure Powerhouse!

  1. East Coast Contractor – Brisbane Base
  2. Multidisciplinary concern – winning everything!
  3. 1 rung below the top dog!

This contractor has undergone massive growth within the last 5 years – so much so that they have had to redevelop their business plan, expand their management team and add other state locations to cope with the level of activity and project work they have been awarded. This has also allowed them to diversify into other civil areas and they have managed to establish successful businesses in their own right within this entity.

A flurry of project wins in their flourishing utilities business unit has seen them identify the need for an Operations Manager to direct and coordinate the operation of construction projects to achieve profit or project targets.
Reporting to the General Manager and with Project Managers as reports, the role will include:
• Overseeing the administration of several construction contracts through a number of Project Managers to ensure the contracts are executed to the satisfaction of the client and in accordance with agreed specifications, terms, conditions and budget.
• Ensuring construction design work is available as required.
• Ensuring strict adherence to statutory regulations, particularly in regard to safety.
• Acting on behalf of the organisation in discussions with clients and their agents, sub-contractors, site personnel, suppliers and the general public.
• Ensuring any departure from the conditions of contracts likely to result in increased cost is reflected in a corresponding increase in the contract price.
• Monitoring construction progress and updating construction programmes and forecasts.
• Liaising with trade unions to ensure control of site personnel and resolving minor industrial disputes
• Ensuring optimum utilisation of personnel and equipment at each site, and the security of material and equipment.
• Together with the Project Manager, liaising with on-site client representatives to ensure client satisfaction and prompt notification of matters in dispute.
• Arrange for hand-over and wind-up of projects, including disposal.

And other duties as required.

Is this the type of role you are performing or have performed?
Have you been exposed to Civil Utilities such as Water and Electrical/Data Projects?

Have you managed a large project in excess of CV$200m from inception to delivery successfully?

Ideally the candidate will be in a similar position, tertiary qualified as a Civil Engineer, have developed strong relationships within the market and be keen to grow a business to its potential.
