Operations Manager - Contractor

Contractor strategically growing its Qld Operations!

  1. Contracting Identity - QLD
  2. Growing Order Book
  3. Senior Management Team opportunity

The high operational costs and large overheads of the large contractors has seen a number of smaller, leaner contractors grow their businesses over the last few years and enter territory that was thought to be open only to top tier entities. The construction climate has certainly changed in Australia with clients now offering for tender smaller packages to promote fiercer competition.

Our client is one of the smaller contractors – well established Australia wide, their market is civil infrastructure and earthworks, and according to their satisfied and steadily growing client base, few do it better.
Central to their recruitment needs is the appointment of an Operations Manager to direct and coordinate the operation of construction projects to achieve profit and project targets and provide active input and ownership into project bids to ensure the financial, quality, programme, procurement and performance parameters of projects are attainable – is this you?
Reporting to the State Manager the candidate will be responsible for:
• Ensuring optimum utilisation of personnel and equipment at each project.

• Taking a visible leadership role in health and safety activities to ensure that the health, safety, and well-being of all personnel and members of the public are not placed at risk.

• Establishing and reviewing project health and safety plans, statistics, targets, and reviewing accident and incident reports and ensuring corrective action is implemented.

• Monitoring construction progress and updating construction programme and forecasts as necessary.

• Ensuring thorough monthly reports are prepared and submitted in a timely fashion, and reviewing monthly forecasts and Project Reports.

• In conjunction with the Project Manager liaising with on-site client representatives to ensure client satisfaction and prompt resolution of matters in dispute.

• In conjunction with the Project Manager and the Commercial Manager working to resolve contractual and sub-contractual conflicts in a timely way.

And other duties as required.

Is this the type of role you are performing or have performed?
Do you have a strong knowledge of the National Civil Infrastructure Market?

Have you managed a large project in excess of CV$200m from inception to delivery successfully?

Ideally the candidate will be in a similar position, tertiary qualified as a Civil Engineer, have developed strong relationships within the market and be keen to grow a business to its potential.

If you feel that you have the necessary background, capability and qualifications please don’t hesitate to email your most up to date CV and Cover Letter to or call 07 3309 2153!
